Jab rollout protects Geelong's seniors

Roz Welsh1Geelong's public sector aged care residents and staff have begun receiving their COVID-19 vaccines.

The local vaccine rollout began on Monday, with frontline healthcare staff and port workers receiving their jab.

Barwon Health teams headed to Alan David Lodge in Charlemont on Tuesday.

Resident Roz Welsh said even though she was afraid of needles, she would receive the vaccine.

“I’ve been worried about spreading it, so I’ve been thinking ‘the sooner I have the vaccine the better’", Roz said.

"I would never be able to forgive myself if I had the virus and spread it to my friends, so I just have to do it."

Staff and residents at the McKellar Centre will also start receiving the vaccinations this week as part of Phase 1a of the Pfizer program.
