Geelong-made choc pop recalled
A chocolate lollipop manufactured in Geelong and sold around the country is being recalled because its label does not detail the presence of eggs, which can cause allergic reactions in some people.
Freckleberry's Kiss Me Lollipop, which is produced at the company's South Geelong premises, is being removed from shelves and people who have egg allergies or intolerances are being advised not to consume it.
The candy, which is mounted on a stick and features pink eyes, a green nose and red mouth, is sold at news agencies, independent gift retailers, gift shops, florists and cafes in Victoria, NSW, ACT, Tasmania, Queensland and South Australia.
The affected range has a best before date of February 1, 2022.
The lollipop can be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Eggs are among the most common allergens for children, with signs and symptoms ranging from mild to severe.
They can include rashes, hives, nasal congestion, vomiting, cramps, and asthmatic symptoms such as coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath.
In rare cases they can trigger life-threatening anaphylaxis.
Further information can be found at the Food Standards Australia website or by calling Freckleberry on 5229 8432.
